IEEE 802.15.3d-Compliant Waveforms for Terahertz Wireless Communications

The terahertz electromagnetic band has been foreseen as a promising candidate to accommodate the ever-increasing wireless data traffic. To this end, development of novel transceiver architectures and signal processing solutions is crucial handling massive volume transmitted over communications networks. In paper, we propose waveform that shows full compliance with spectral emission mask imposed by IEEE Standard for communications. designed exploits 99.3 $\%$ total in-band energy admissible provides an extra degree freedom out-of-band interference management. A proof-of-concept experiment conducted using 300 GHz photonics-based link demonstrate generation transmission proposed waveform. Experimentally validated bit error rates show outperforms widely adopted raised-cosine better-than-Nyquist even when Nyquist criterion inter-symbol interference-free signaling not satisfied. Moreover, error-free at 1.44 Gbit/s achieved without employing complicated digital receiver side.
